Shore Fest - Main Lawn

On Saturday, September 16th, Astoria Park Alliance will bring its signature Shore Fest event back to Astoria Park. The event festivities will take place on the Main Lawn adjacent to the Bocce Court off Shore Boulevard

The event has intentionally been scheduled for mid-September to take advantage of comfortable weather that late summer brings.

Live music will be performed on a main stage procured by The Alliance with a rotating set of local musicians from 1 - 5 pm. Among the confirmed acts, Astoria newcomer Ithalia Johnson will deliver her soothing rhythmic wave of folk, rock and soul, while Astoria veterans The East River Blues Band performs American classics.

Shore Fest promises to bring fun for all ages with classic competitions like potato sack races, egg on a spoon and bean bag toss. Local Astoria retailers have donated generous gift prizes for Shore Fest participants.

Shore Fest will also be a place to learn a new skill or hobby like bocce, yoga, zumba, ukulele, and even improv acting. Kids will be encouraged tojump around inside a giant bounce house, get their faces painted and enjoy assorted arts and crafts activities on the main lawn.

Astoria Park Alliance is celebrating its ten-year anniversary, and 2017 also marks the organization's first year as an official 501(c)(3) non-profit. APA welcomes the community to celebrate these achievements while connecting with other Astorians in enjoying the park’s beauty. Shore Fest is a free and fun festival that promises to close out the summer in style.

Attendees are encouraged to RSVP on Eventbrite and check social media for programming updates. In case of inclement weather, Shore Fest will proceed the following day.

Event Partners include: Art Beat 5, Art Fiesta Studio, Astor Apiaries, Bee In Motion, The Noguchi Museum, New York Roadrunners, NYC Ferry, NYC Parks Playmobile, Roberto Buscarsi Ukulele & Unlimited Body NY

The Rhinoceros Collective’s mission is to Trumpet the message of Eugene Ionesco’s absurdist masterpiece in vibrant, FREE public art performances beginning this summer in Astoria Park, with an adapted script by Wesley Savick. Using puppetry, movement and music, contemporary audiences are invited to consider this cautionary tale of fascism originally set in 20th century France, and to reflect on the provocative social parallels emerging today in 21st Century America.

APA Presents Movies Under the Stars: La La Land

APA Presents Movies Under the Stars: La La Land

Astoria Park Alliance is partnering with Benedict Realty Group (BRG) to present the Academy Award winning La La Land, as our first Spring movie screening in Astoria Park.

APA Movie Night blankets will be distributed to the first 50 attendees along with free popcorn for all moviegoers thanks to APA’s partnership with BRG.

"APA Presents Movies Under the Stars" was born out of a desire to schedule a screening for the late spring, when the weather is comfortable and the event calendar is less busy. A weekend evening was specifically targeted along with a title that would be appealing to an adult audience.

For years, we have admired and helped promote the July and August Monday night movie series that Central Astoria LDC has sponsored and hosted in Astoria Park. The Alliance hopes to replicate the old-time drive-in-without-the-drive neighborhood feel that brings a magical sensation to the park.

As the APA organization has grown both in size and capacity, we are continuing to expand free public programming opportunities to the community. The 2017 season was kicked off with our first successful Earth Day event that included over 20 local business partners. Earth Day festivities featured the grand opening of the refurbished Bocce Ball Court that was also made possible thanks to Benedict Realty Group.

La La Land will be screened on the great lawn of Astoria Park overlooking the sunset across the East River and is scheduled to begin at sundown, which is generally around 8:15 pm. Moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own blankets and picnics for the inaugural movie night, which hopes to be an annual tradition for the Astoria Park Alliance.
