MONTHLY COMMUNITY VOICE MEETING

* ON HOLD DUE TO COVID-19 * We normally meet on the first Tuesday of each month for a Community Voice Meeting at the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden to learn about what's happening in Astoria Park and make your voice heard!

WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

APA is open to everyone and we welcome all levels of participation whether it’s a contribution of ideas, time, or talent. It’s all good! For those short of time, become a supporter by making a donation – it goes a long way and is very much appreciated!

We don’t have a formal membership, instead we rely on people who show up. Our organization is all about friends and neighbors coming together to make a difference in the park, for the community and for the environment.

1. Come to One of the Volunteer Days

If you’re now thinking “This sounds great -- I’m in!” the most accessible way to getinvolved is to attend one or more of the volunteer dates we organize from April through November. Our volunteer days are a great way to meet new people, make connections and give back to the community. Remember to sign in every time so we can put names to your beautiful faces!

2. Meet and Greet at the Monthly Meetings

You can’t resist us – so don’t try to! If you’ve joined APA for a couple of volunteer datesand are looking for something more, another way of getting involved is to attend our monthly meetings. This is an excellent way to meet and get to know the dedicated volunteers and trustees of APA on an individual basis – and for us to get to know you –and to learn about APA as an organization.

3. Share Your Skills and Talents

Volunteered? Check. Attended meetings? Check. Made friends? Check. Do you have a skill or talent to share with us? Or maybe you looking to learn or develop a new skill like event planning, leadership or public speaking techniques? APA is always looking for people to help plan our public programming and to lead teams during our volunteer days. APA offers many opportunities for you to join in helping the community while also adding a valuable skill to your resume. We also look to foster your ideas and make connections to help realize them. Come talk to us to see how we can work together!

FAQs

  • Why aren’t there recycling containers in Astoria Park?
The Department of Sanitation isn’t able to drive into the park to collect recyclables, and the Parks Dept isn’t set up to receive recycling on their trucks. Astoria Park Alliance is actively brainstorming and seeking a solution to this.

  • Why aren't there more trash cans around the park?
There are no garbage cans at the southern side of Astoria Park and Shore Boulevard (near the dog run on the shore) because there has been issues in the past with residents dumping household garbage and recyclables, so the Parks Department removed them.

  • What's the best way to share direct input with NYC Parks?
Share your input online by visiting: nyc.gov/parks/input. Find out the status of park projects through NYC Parks Capital Project Tracker.
